DoubleClick Skittles Challenge Week #2 | Use a Heart | Mixed Media Vintage Upcycle Heart

Welcome back today to week #2 of The DoubleClick Skittles Challenge! Use a Heart is the theme, and today I have an upcycled project.
A while back I thrifted an old slate heart with a picture painted on it. I probably paid .25 cents for it. So, I thought i would get it out and see what I could make with it.

I knew I needed to paint over this so I used Gesso to cover it up and let it dry.

Next I used the Martha Stewart Pearl paint in Aquarium, love this color and shine!
I used the heat gun to dry this time.

And here is what I did! I used hot glue to adhere beads, vintage buttons, skittles, faux pearls, and sequin butterflies. I defiantly love collecting vintage buttons can you tell?
After burning my finger with the hot glue gun, I decided to use the Ranger Multi Medium Matte glue, it was just safer that way. This had to sit over night to dry.

Here are a few close ups.

And finally I put it on display on my hutch!

This is my project for this week, I hope you enjoyed something a little different!
I think this makes a cute home decor piece.
Oh, and not to forget, I found this idea from Mark Montano, except it was his Facebook page.

I truly feel like making a couple more maybe making it into a scene.

Come join the challenge this week, link up your project with your Skittles for a chance to win a prize! If you do not have any Skittles you can still play along. The Skittle dew drops are such a fun and beautiful embellishment that you can use alone or with other embellishments. And Carrie has a variety of colors, and free shipping in the United States!
